Where Do I Belong

One of the most important questions we ask ourselves in life, knowingly or unknowingly, is "Where do I belong?"  God has provided the answer to that question from the very beginning. He has invited us to be his children.  Contrary to popular belief, we are not born his children.  We are all his creation, and yes, he desires to be our father, but we only become his child when we call upon him in faith.
He has created the human family so that each of us can have  a sense of belonging.  The family is failing badly in this world, and the present chaos is in large part due to the fact that this is the case. "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction." (Malachi 4:5)  But, know this, "Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me." (Psalm 27:10)
The church is another channel of support that has been designed by God, and can give a wonderful feeling of belonging. When we enter into a relationship with the Lord, we immediately become part of the body of Christ, or the church.  But until we choose to find a church and enter into worship, fellowship, and ministry with that church, we are missing a great blessing.
As we pass through life, our support systems change.  Some that my children have had, in addition to family and church, are 4H, sports teams, homeschool groups, and Junior Red Cross.  Most of my children have left the nest.  The times of 4H and such are over.  They are forging their own families.  Some are solidly active in the church.
We may start new jobs, meet new friends, pursue new interests.  There are numerous ways that we can belong.  But when it is all said and done, if we don't have God, family, and church we are adrift on dangerous waters.  Some of you have lost your natural families through death or divorce.  God knows, and he has said, "God sets the lonely in families" (Psalm 68:6).  He will never leave nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).  Do not despair.  He knows your need for belonging.  He created you for that, and if he has created you with a need, he will fill it.  God bless.
