The Light of the World
Coming home from grocery shopping the other night, I noticed the Christmas lights that were still adorning some trees and something occured to me for the first time. In the fray between Santa and the nativity or Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays, there has never been a contest between light and dark.
People of all persuasions decorate with light. No one would even suggest dark is better. How do you display darkness anyway?
And so, in subtle demonstration, the lights signify that Jesus, the Light of the World, has come. But as the case has been from ages past, "the world perceived him not".
