Are You Living a Righteous Life?
What comes to your mind when you think of the word righteous? Is it a list of do's and don'ts? I know I certainly lean in that direction. But, this morning my thoughts were arrested by something I've read thousands of times, before. It is Romans 4:20-22. "He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving Glory to God, and beng fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore it was accounted to him for righteousness."
Let that sink in. We are probably conscious of sins like greed, gluttony, immodesty, worldliness, and so forth, in ourselves, and others. But, how often do we live our lives in unbelief and not even give it a second thought? How many times are we not really counting on God to get us through the latest financial crisis, health crisis, or marriage crisis? How often are we actually living in unbelief without even being aware of it, all the while worrying about "lesser" sins?
When it all comes down to it, if we don't have faith, we don't have anything at all. If we don't have faith, we're living in unrighteousness. God we believe, help our unbelief. In Jesus name. Amen.
